Animanium software: a historical note

Looking for the original SEGA animation software? This page explains the earlier use of this domain and points to surviving historical sources.

What Animanium was

SEGA’s 2002 annual report lists Animanium among its new businesses and describes it as software for producing CG character animation. The University of Tokyo’s Robot Brain project awards record identifies Animanium as an application using flexible inverse kinematics, associated with the university and SEGA.

Why inverse kinematics mattered

Inverse kinematics works from a target toward a chain of joints. It gives an animator a way to reason about a planted hand or foot instead of rotating every joint independently. That is useful historical context for the product’s emphasis on posing; it is not a reconstruction of its interface or a claim that a particular old installer works on a modern computer.

Finding the earlier website

The 19 May 2003 Internet Archive capture records the original website. Archive navigation may lead to incomplete pages or unavailable media. Dates and product references in those captures belong to that period.

Downloads and support

The present journal does not supply original installers, licence keys, manuals or product support. Old download addresses remain unavailable rather than being replaced with unrelated files. We do not claim SEGA’s identity, endorsement or ownership of the software. For a current, tool-independent exercise, see choosing IK or FK for an action.
